The Problem:
The Concreting of thousands of acres of farming land and destruction of people's houses.
The Social Invention:
Build an Island in the Thames Estuary large enough to support at least one runway. Increase the size gradually to make the land support housing. The Island could be supplied with electricity generated by tidal flow. One side of the River could be left open for shipping. Hundreds of jobs created, saving many acres of farm land from total restruction. The Thames Barrier has passed its most usefull life, the Island would act as a flood barrier.
