The Problem:
The excessive use of packaging.

The Social Invention:
Have a price for a product with and without packaging. Consumer can buy the product without packaging at a cheaper price. This will encourage less packaging.

spitzl 20 Jan '06 02:16	Subject: leave it at the store Great idea! In Austria shops have to take back and dispose the packaging of their products. The more packaging the higher the cost of disposal.

trevHCS 19 Jan '06 22:11	Subject: Extra packaging uses Its a nice idea, but an awful lot of products require packaging such as food to preserve freshness, somewhere to put the anti-theft gizmo or just a means to keep all the contents together. Would work sometimes however.

mudpuppy 19 Jan '06 17:13	Subject: ship in bulk The manufacturer can ship in bulk. So for instance you can ship toilet paper, razors, cell phones, pens, shoes in boxes of 500. People then take out of the big box. This is analogous to how some supermarkets sell cereal in bulk bins.

Dick Lucy 19 Jan '06 15:04	Subject: Packaging Lovely idea but as everything is now packaged,who unwraps and collects the packaging. It costs the shop more to sell unwrapped than wrapped.
