The Problem:
We have been told that politicians deserve high salaries because this encourages quality. Given the law of supply and demand it seems as uf have more aspirant politicians then we want perhaps we could use income as a performance incentive.
The Social Invention:
If the guaranteed income of a politician was equivalent to the average wage then they could boost that income depending on the number of votes they gained. We have historic data on the average number of votes particular parties attract - that would be the base figure - their salary would be determined by how many votes they can get above that average. Where voting is voluntary they would have a further incentive to improve the voter turn out.
To maintain their income they would need to ensure that their disapproval rating as recorded on the web by their constituents does not drop below a predetermined level.
