The Problem:
Further marginalisation, victimisation & exploitation of women, as well as both female and male children, following this apocalyptic natural disaster. Women were marginalised prior to the natural disaster and in many instances even more so after it. Need to identify, tap & further develop disaster relief and recovery leadership and skills of women in the affected region.
The Social Invention:
Women Tsunami Survivors International, international membership NGO comprising women tsunami survivors & a network of existing women's orgs working in the region, with the key addition of other individuals and groups internationally who support long-term solidarity to those communities. Primary Geographic coverage: the Indian Ocean region hit by Dec 2004 tsunamis from Asia to East & Horn of Africa.
