: Grateful

: It is with a deep and lingering feeling of sadness that I learned of Nicholas Albery’s sudden death yesterday. I am forever thankful for having walked through these exquisitely beautiful parts of the English countryside and I will not forget these delightful moments spent in the company of dear friends and family members, and of course these enlightening conversations the group used to have throughout the day.

: To me Nicholas was a model of kind-heartedness, generosity and modesty. I also found his genuine interest in other people and the breadth and originality of his ideas truly remarkable and unique.

: I still keep very vivid and fond memories about the fascinating stories of his eventful life he kindly shared with us on numerous occasions in the shade of lovely country pubs gardens or admiring beautiful and inspiring landscapes. Several visions also remain engraved in my memory: Nicholas disappearing amongst some thick bushes under the cold and pouring rain to retreat into his ‘secret’ hut for the rest of the weekend (quite comical at the time), Nicholas reciting poetry to the silent and exhausted group at the end of the day during the train journey back to London; pictures of Nicholas and Josephine, self-sufficient and serene, during a holiday on a Greek desert Island; and of course many more images, I am certain also remembered by the people who knew and loved him.

: I feel very grateful for having met such a nice and interesting man and would like to invite his friends to recollect souvenirs and anecdotes they would like to share so that Nicholas’ unfortunate disappearance should enable us to celebrate the happy and warm moments he brought to our lives.

: My deepest sympathy goes to his wife Josephine and the rest of his family.

: Johanna
