'In Loving Memory' began through the terminal illness of a close friend of Christine Davies. Whilst accepting the inevitability of her demise, the friend was clear in her mind that she wanted her funeral to be a celebration of her life, one in which she could have a major part in the planning and organisation. She chose her music, her poems, her flowers and the menu. This brought enormous comfort to both herself and her family. They were relieved of the burden of the organisation, when the day finally came. They knew that the service was exactly as she would have wished, non-traditional, with a spiritual content, based on her life, her memories, held in her own home and attended by her friends, members of her family from the very young to the elderly, and her pets.
Davies' 'In Loving Memory' service has since been offering the same quality of celebrations to other people in a similar position, who live in North Wales, the Wirral, Cheshire and Shropshire. She works with local funeral directors, taking nondenominational services on their behalf, and she can organise a Celebration of Life service later on the day of the funeral, or later at any venue, according to her clients' wishes.
'In Loving Memory' is thus similar to the services offered by a humanist 'officiant' or a Unitarian minister, except that Christine Davies can also help arrange aspects such as floral tributes, catering or a choice of music, the printing of the service sheets with photographs if desired and a video record of the day.
