From an announcement put out by the Natural Death Centre.
Thom Osborn, a British filmmaker, is offering a service to help people record a video of themselves, to be played after their death.
The service, called 'Video Message Memorials', was successfully tried out at the English Day of the Dead event on April 21st '96, at which four people bravely recorded their messages for posterity in front of an audience.
Such a message could be laid down at any time of life, and for a variety of posthumous purposes. The video might perhaps be shown at one's funeral, or contain a particular message for a loved one or for future generations, or contain advice to children.
"Whatever your impulse," says Osborn, "whoever you are speaking to, I will film it for you (and help you to formulate what you want to say, if you wish)."
The normal cost would be £40 for one hour (£30 for any subsequent hour), the price to include making a copy onto VHS tape. Concessionary rates are available by negotiation. Thom Osborn, Flat B, 1 Brecknock Road, London N7 OBL (tel 020 7 485 2076).
