Scottish natural death and green burial group

Jane Withers

Adapted from a leaflet sent to the Natural Death Centre.

'Another way' is a new working group of people aiming to provide a practical service to support people facing bereavement or wanting to prepare for their own death.

At the moment we are gathering information on the choices we all have relating to these issues and providing a forum for their discussion.

In time we hope to offer: information and advice; counselling; training and education; home visits.

'We are looking for suitable land to provide a woodland burial site in the Stewartry'

We are looking for suitable land to provide a woodland burial site in the Stewartry and then to offer practical burial services according to individual wishes.

'Natural death' to us simply means exercising as much control as possible over the way we die and how we are put to rest.

Today an increasing number of people want to organise at least part of a funeral themselves. This may involve anything from ordering or making a coffin, to arranging transport of the deceased, or conducting a family service.

A 'green burial' is more environmentally friendly and can be less expensive than conventional burial or cremation. There are a whole range of options from different coffins, be they wood, cardboard or cloth; to choice of burial site and grave marker - stone, plaque or tree.
