From a letter to the Natural Death Centre.
I am writing to say how much my family has appreciated your poetry anthology Poem for the Day. Someone gave it to my mother for Christmas and she has been showing it to everyone and reading one day by day.
She was finding life more and more difficult so that managing to read a poem each day became one of her chief pleasures. We nursed her last weeks at home and she died peacefully, While sitting with her, night and day, we all read from the anthology to ourselves and to her.
We were so grateful to be able to keep my mother at home. We received help and support from the local nurses and doctor, at the end. It made such a difference being able to look after her in her bedroom, with the smell of roses and the birdsong.
